Black silicon carbide is produced at high temperature in an electric resistance type furnace with quarts sand and petroleum coke as its main raw marterials .Its hardness is between fused alumina and synthetic diamond.Mechanical intensity of it is higher than fused alumina .It is brittle and sharp has electrical and heat conductivity in some degree.The abrasives made of it are suitable for working on cast iron,non-ferrous metal,rock, leather,rubber,etc.It is also broadly used as refractory material and metallurgical additive.

Application
Silicon carbide has stable chemical property, high thermal conductivity coefficient, small thermal expansion coefficient and good abrasion resistance. Besides being used as abrasive, it has many other purposes. For example, silicon carbide powder is coated on the inner wall of turbine impeller or cylinder block by special process to improve its abrasion resistance and extend its service life by 1-2 times; It is a kind of advanced refractory material made of it, which is resistant to thermal shock, small in size, light in weight and high in strength, and has good energy saving effect.
